The monumental Ingurtosu Mine Management Building, was designed and built by Eng. J.G. Bornemann. Construction of the building lasted several years, during which time numerous variations were made to the original design. The work was completed by Eng. Viktor Bornemann, director of the mine from 1884 to 1894. The building is reminiscent of the Northern European building tradition, especially the 11th-century Wartburg Castle located in Eisenach, Germany. The reference to this German architecture is a tribute to Engineer Bornemann, who was born precisely in Eisenach. Inside the building, the offices of the Ingurtosu Mine Directorate, laboratories as well as the director’s residence were installed. Everything remained unchanged for the entire period of the Ingurtosu mine’s operation.
