The museum is housed in the former city hall. It is dedicated to the painter, portraitist and engraver Antonio Mura who was born in Aritzo (Nuoro) in 1902 and died in Florence in 1972. A complete artist, both in professional training and adequate culture, he distinguished himself in performing sacred works, following his deeply religious inspiration. Inside the museum are his major works; a space that links the artist to his fellow villagers, to showcase and celebrate the greatness and skill of an early 20th century Sardinian. The beauty that through the pictorial stroke takes us back to that Sardinia made of traditions and colors, like those of the wonderful Sardinian textiles that Antonio Mura brings back in his works, along with faces of women, men and children facing everyday life.
