Ostia Cove Tower

Built by the Piedmontese in the late 1700s, the Tower of Cala d’Ostia took the place of a pre-existing Spanish lookout structure. It had the function of guarding the stretch of coastline from the mouth of Rio Pedras de Fogu to the two coves of Ostia from pirate attacks. The tower could transmit messages to other stations through visual contact with them. It was the subject of an effective restoration completed 15 years ago.
