Aggius (Àggju) is a town of 1,410 inhabitants, located in the province of Sassari, in the historical subregion of Gallura. It rises at the foot of a granite ridge 514 meters above sea level. Aggius is known for the preservation of its medieval village, a historic center for which it has been recognized among the Authentic Villages of Italy and has been awarded the Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club.
There are no less than five museums in Aggius, including the MEOC museum (Oliva Carta Cannas ethnographic museum), the museum of banditry, the AAAperto museum, the museum of lost love, and finally the doodle museum. Of note is the presence in Aggius of a renowned choir, nicknamed by Gabriele D’Annunzio “Gallura cockerel choir” because of its characteristic sounds.
