Aritzo

Aritzo is a mountain town in Barbagia, in the heart of Sardinia, perched among fairy-tale landscapes on the western slope of the Gennargentu massif at 800 meters above sea level. It is part of the network of “Authentic Villages of Italy.” 1184 inhabitants, land of wood craftsmen, mountain resort tourist center, nestled in the green of chestnut and hazelnut groves. Home of Poet Bachis Sulis and Painter Antonio Mura, rich in history and traditions, Aritzo has chosen to bring its resources into play to create sustainable tourism-cultural growth development. Renowned Chestnut and Hazelnut Festival has been gladdening the October weekend of all Sardinians for 50 years. A rich historical and cultural heritage represented by the Museum System that includes the Ethnographic Museum, the manor house of the Devilla family, “The Lords of Snow,” the Spanish prisons “Sa Bovida,” and the Museum dedicated to painter Antonio Mura.

The SCI area of the Texile heel, archaeological sites, and the snowfields of Funtana Cugnada, at 1,500 meters above sea level, are just some of the wonders this country has to offer.
