Escalaplano

Escalaplano is located in the province of South Sardinia. The area is situated on a plateau between the Flumendosa and Flumineddu valleys, characterized by rich vegetation of cork oak forests and land for grazing. There are numerous archaeological presences belonging to different eras, ranging from the Neolithic, such as the nuraghi scattered throughout the municipal territory, the sacred wells of “Is Clamoris” and the Domu de Janas of Fossada, to the early Middle Ages. The historic center of the municipality features, still perfectly intact, examples of traditional stone architecture, including the characteristic arches. The country church of San Giovanni and the parish church of San Sebastiano, which is a rare example of Renaissance-era construction, should definitely be mentioned: similar buildings are quite rare in Sardinia. The area also has a wealth of interesting sights both from a landscape and historical point of view, including “Sa Trona” and the “Abellada” waterfall.
