Guspini

An important center in the Middle Campidano region, Guspini with its nearly 12,000 inhabitants encompasses a vast territory.

From the abandoned villages of Montevecchio, at the old mines, embraced by dense, unspoiled nature, to the town center, with its millennia-old columnar basalts and themed flowerbeds, this municipality offers splendid views and evocative landscapes.

The territory of Guspini occupies the northernmost tip of the Middle Campidano: from the borders with Oristano to the metalliferous reliefs of the Iglesiente, from the Campidano plain to the Santa Maria di Neapolis pond. With an area of 174 square kilometers and an altitude ranging from 0 to 750 meters above sea level, the territory of Guspini, boasts an environment rich in characteristic traits both from a wildlife and botanical point of view. Tall scrub with arbutus, heather, viburnum, holm oak, and cork dominates throughout the area, while formations of black alder, oleander, and white willow subsist near stream beds. In the Mediterranean scrubland between Montevecchio and the mouth of the Piscinas stream, the Sardinian deer(Cervus elaphus corsicanus) the Sardinian-run variety of the European red deer(cervus elaphus elaphus Linnaeus) dominates with its grandeur and beauty, compared to which it is slightly smaller and more slender. A species exclusive to vertebrate fauna in Sardinia that in montevecchio is not uncommon to encounter even near mining structures. The dense and intricate vegetation also provides a safe haven for wild boar, martens, foxes, weasels, wild cats, rabbits, hares, hedgehogs, and quercine mice. Important faunal endemics further enrich the specificity of these environments, such as the presence of the Sardinian geotriton, discoglossum, dwarf algiroid, and tarantolin. Gentilis Municipal Park constitutes an ideal place to spend relaxing moments among pine forests and springs, in contact with nature and unspoiled settings. Toward the coast, Santa Maria di Neapolis Pond offers the colors of pink flamingos and other species that find their habitat here.
