Porto Torres is the main tourist and commercial port in northwestern Sardinia. Located in the center of the Gulf of Asinara and lying on a white limestone promontory, the city is connected with Genoa, Civitavecchia, France and Spain. It is a very short distance from the most popular tourist destinations in northern Sardinia and gives visitors pleasant walks along the seafront promenade and strolls among the impressive vestiges of the past and among lively markets and craft stores.
The territory also includes the island of Asinara, since 1997 a National Park of extraordinary natural and historical value.
The oldest human settlement of Porto Torres dates back to prehistoric times, as evidenced by the presence of villages, sanctuaries, and numerous
