The municipality of Samassi stands in the center of the Middle Campidano plain and its territory extends around the small hill that today, with its Romanesque-Pisan church of San Geminiano, is its emblem. The urban center, populated by about 5,000 inhabitants, is divided into two parts by the Rio Mannu, a watercourse of torrential character that has always been the center of social and economic life for the town.
The fertile flat land is completely cultivated with renowned varieties of cereals, vegetables and vines, but there are also numerous olive and almond groves. Large expanses are devoted to the cultivation of artichokes, considered the most valuable product among the typical local products, which is promoted through the Sagra del Carciofo, one of the most important artichoke fairs in Sardinia.
In addition to its agricultural production, Samassi is known for the quality of its traditional food and wine products and the refinement of its traditional cuisine.
