Sanluri

Halfway between the two capitals of Cagliari and Oristano, Sanluri owes its fortune and prosperity to its fortunate location, which has always proved strategic from both a historical-military and economic point of view. The territory of the municipality covers about 90 sq. km. and is hilly in the most northwestern part and flat in the south. Its economy, originally mainly agricultural-pastoral, can now also be considered to be significantly developed on the side of small industry, trade and services.
From a tourist point of view, Sanluri offers several opportunities to the visitor: the major attraction is the Castello Giudicale, the only medieval fortress that has remained intact and can be visited in Sardinia, together with the village that extends south of the castle, which is the subject of a recovery activity that today makes it pleasant to the many tourists.
A particularly interesting opportunity to get to know it, which combines the pleasantness of the place with the colors of the traditions of the past, is the Festa del Borgo, which is organized every year at the end of September, with the collaboration of the Pro Loco, by the inhabitants and artisans of the village itself for the purpose of “opening the doors” of the most typical houses in the historic center of Sanluri and its gastronomic and artisan traditions. In conjunction with the Festa del Borgo, since 2017, the Sagra del Civraxu (registered National Collective Trademark) has made its debut, born with the opening to the public of the new Civraxu Bread and Bakery Museum of Sanluri.
Other sites of interest are the Capuchin Ethnographic Museum and some very old churches such as San Pietro, San Lorenzo, San Martino and the Parish of Nostra Signora delle Grazie, which preserve some small masterpieces of sacred art recently restored and returned to the public and the faithful.
