Semestene

Semestene and its territory are an integral part of the region of Logudoro Meilogu , a place in the middle, lying between the Campeda plateau, the Marghine Goceano mountain ranges, Monte Acuto and Sassarese.

The morphology of the territory is characterized by wide plains, modest reliefs delineate fertile valleys, and turn, in the southwestern part, into mountain massifs. The morphological variations of the territory, trachytes and trachytic tuffs, Miocene limestones, basalts, has determined the distribution of settlements on the edges of plateaus and along incisions, favoring agricultural and pastoral activities, with prevalence of the latter over the former.

Located at an altitude of 408 meters above sea level, in the fertile valley furrowed by the Rio Sa Orta e sa Cariasa, the built-up area, is articulated according to a medieval urban scheme around the church of Santa Croce and the parish church of S. Giorgio with an almost radial development. In the relationship between the built-up area and the surrounding countryside, the vastness of the municipal territory is evident, with an extension of 39.72 sq. km., compared to the small size of the town.
