Seneghe

Seneghe is located 25 kilometers from the provincial capital, in the hills, at an elevation of 325 meters above sea level. Its territory is mainly hilly, with an extended offshoot to the last crags of the Montiferru volcanic complex. Here there is a considerable forest of holm oaks and hollies owned by the municipality of Seneghe. The land, which is quite fertile, has in history favored settlement. Numerous monuments from the Nuragic age are present. The 100 nuraghi are distributed around the town, from the first hills to the mountain ridge line. Tombs of giants are also numerous. Cereal farming and cattle breeding were practiced in the lands of the village, while sheep breeding remained in the background, especially since the 19th century. The prevailing activities today are olive growing, sheep and cattle breeding of the Sardinian-Modican and Brown Sardinian breeds, and craft activities related to construction. The latter find application today in the care of the town’s historic center, which preserves a good number of stone houses built from the 16th century onward, with valuable ornamental elements in the door and window cantons. Seneghe is located 20 kilometers from the sea. These various elements, the genuine productions, the proximity to the sea, the quality of the environment and the merits of the historic center, have fostered the spread of interest of Italian and foreign tourists who are increasingly frequenting the village.
