Sini

The Village of Sini is located in the historical region of Alta Marmilla. Its toponym derives from Sinu, from the inlet in which it stands. Its history dates back to Nuragic times as evidenced by the numerous ruins of ancient nuraghi that tower over the hills of the village. The discovery of tombs, pottery and coins revealed an ancient settlement that arose within the village dating back to Roman times.

It is located at the foot of the Giara, accessible from the village by various routes, such as Scala Seremida, an ancient stone mule track or Scab’i ois. The basaltic plateau of volcanic origin is home to wild horses unique in Europe: it is a wild and unspoiled place in whose ridge rises the Cracchera Park, the jewel in the crown of Sini’s natural heritage, embellished in flood periods by the Su Strumpu waterfall. The village is nestled among sinuous, lush hills full of picturesque views of almond groves, vineyards and olive groves for which it is a member of the National Association of Oil Cities. These include theMillennial Olive Tree named a Natural Monument of the Region. The historic center is characterized by massive architecture identified in the materials of stone and unfired earth, cut by the large historic wooden portals that open onto courtyards in “ impedrau ” perfectly preserved.

Dominating from above is the 16th-century country church of St. George Martyr . The people, devoted to him, pay homage to him every year from April 22 to 24 by consecrating to him the Pani Saba, a votive sweet made from local almonds and sapa with a PAT trademark, for which the important festival is held on the 25th of the same month.
