Vado Ligure

Ancient Vada Sabatia, a city with roots in Roman history, around the 2nd century BC.

It became a municipality of the Roman Empire and an important road and commercial hub, thanks to a massive reclamation project in the area.

The ancient Via Aemilia Scauri arrived here, becoming a nodal point of the later Via Julia Augusta.

During the period of Genoese rule, around 1528, it developed as an important trading port, still its great characteristic feature.

Its economy grew in the 20th century, with a strong industrial connotation.

From the cultural point of view, the Civic Museum of Villa Groppallo, inaugurated in 1982 and rearranged in 1999, is noteworthy, which preserves inside it relics from Roman and medieval times. There is also an interesting collection dedicated to contemporary art and local and international artists, protagonists of the “Vado Prize,” established in 1951.
