Open Monuments – Practices of Wonder
Wonder, then, as a complex emotional condition, combining awe and surprise, admiration and reverence, enchantment and well-being. In this sense, (re)opening up to the wonders around us underscores, on the one hand, the mission of an event that can still work on vital spaces of discovery and knowledge by helping, now more than ever, the visiting public to rediscover, wonder anew and reinvest in memory. And on the other hand, it enhances the relationship of the individual with cultural heritage and that reclaims “wonder.”
This year we wanted to fuse together in an image the practice of MA wonder in the relationship between volunteers, the public and heritage. It is a statement of responsibility to the role of the present in remembering the past to build the future already today. A stimulus to take a closer look at what we always look at as if it were distant but is not really, it is just little known or deepened.
