In Sacro Itinere – Itinerary in contemporary art

The In Sacro Itinere project, established in 1996 with the intention of combining the city’s living folk traditions with contemporary art, saw the placement of three works by artists Igino Panzino, Aldo Contini, and Giovanni Carta. It has recently been revitalized with a new installation by artist Stefano Serusi. The work, in the city’s historic center, expresses the lyrical vision of the young artist from Alghero, who designed a sculptural structure in glazed ceramic, executed by ceramicist Elisabetta Frau. “Above everything I love your soul” is the title of the installation inspired by the collection of Argentine poet Alfonsina Storni, the poetic verse articulates lightly and cadenced on the wall surface and becomes a strong visual reminder of the first station of the Way of the Cross. The words that make up the verse are modeled as a climbing branch traversed by thorns with clear reference to the themes of Holy Week but also to the tormented life of Alfonsina Storni, whose first collection is titled “The Restlessness of the Rose Garden.”
