Mount of Quirra Castle

The castle, built by the judges of Cagliari to guard the border with the giudicato of Gallura, was occupied in 1324 by the Aragonese led by Francisco Carroz.

Because of its political-strategic, military and economic importance, it suffered numerous sieges: in fact, having possession of it meant having control not only of the coast, but also of the rich mines located inland. All that remains of the fortress are the ruins towering over Mount Cudias, a well-preserved cistern for collecting water, and a breathtaking view of the sea and the entire surrounding area for miles. The castle is the scene of numerous legends, mainly concerning the Carroz family, making it a place full of charm and mystery.

In addition to the castle, the itinerary makes it possible to visit the other sites of interest in Mt. Cudias.
