Thirty Feet of Monuments 2016: Stampace

To celebrate the event’s 20th anniversary (and fifth year of operation), the Monuments Thirty-Footer awaits its passengers in Yenne Square, from where the pedestrian convoy will explore the Stampace district through its streets, characteristic views and main monuments. The westernmost of the city’s four historic districts boasts a history dating back thousands of years, evident in the archaeological remains that have emerged over time and confirmed in recent urban redevelopment work. But there are also many places that are fundamental to the city’s civic history, from the San Giovanni di Dio Hospital, built in the 19th century in the neoclassical style, to the hollows used during World War II as shelters, to the statue of the Savoyard ruler Charles Felix that dominates the Largo of the same name. Thanks to the system designed by students and professors of Vestigia-Laboratory of Didactics and Communication of Cultural Heritage at the University of Cagliari, the area can be rediscovered as a whole through a shared experience: a pedestrian convoy will leave at regular intervals from the terminus in Piazza Yenne, respecting precise stops and exchange stations. These correspond to as many places, where people will be able to choose whether to leave the human convoy to visit individual sites with the guidance of volunteers, or to continue the exploration according to the guided route (departure every 30 minutes, total duration of the itinerary 45 minutes).
