Thirty Feet of Monuments Bonaria Area

The theme of the 2014 edition invites the Thirty Feet of Monuments, which in past years has explored the Marina and Villanova neighborhoods, to take an itinerary to discover the events, monuments, archaeological remains and special glimpses of that part of the city that today refers to the Basilica of Our Lady of Bonaria. The hill and the entire area surrounding it, in fact, over the millennia have hosted human settlements and necropolis (from the Punic age onward) and have been the scene of important historical events. It will be an opportunity, among other things, to discover the site of the Castel de Bonayre, which came into being in 1324 during the war for the conquest of the island by the army of the Crown of Aragon and became the first capital of Regnum Sardiniae et Corsicae. Thanks to the system designed by the students of the University of Cagliari involved in the activity of the Laboratory of Didactics and Communication of Cultural Heritage, the district as a whole can be rediscovered as a cultural site to be reappropriated. A pedestrian convoy, equipped with a train conductor and human locomotive, will depart at regular intervals from the terminus, in Cemetery Square (near the entrance to the monumental cemetery), respecting precise stops and exchange stations. The latter correspond to as many places, where one can choose whether to leave the human convoy to visit – with the guidance of students and volunteers – the churches, the museum, the cemetery, the archaeological relics, and the educational and research laboratory for the preservation of cultural heritage, or to continue the exploration of the neighborhood according to the guided route through history, environment and architecture.
