Wildlife and historical trail in the salt pans of Molentargius Park

Organized by the ScienceSocietyScience Association in collaboration with teachers and students from IIS Michele Giua in Assemini and the Molentargius Center for Environmental and Sustainability Education (CEAS).

Route 1: departure from entrance No. 11 of the Park on the Poetto waterfront, near the Marine Hospital. It will provide an initial station with a presentation of the route. Continuing toward the Rollone water-scooping machine, there will be other stations where some bird species will be described and, if present, observed. It will also be possible to visit the historic Forced Labourers’ Shelter building dating back to 1767 and learn about the history of the “damned of the salt.”

Route 2: Starting from entrance No. 3 of the Park (parking lot side access after the Selected Salts building). It provides for an initial station with the presentation of the trail. Continuing on you will meet the next stations where the Colubro trail will be presented, some bird species will be illustrated and observed, if present, and World War II forts will be described. Moving on, it will be possible to reach the historic building of the Forced Forces’ Shelter and listen to stories related to the hard work of the “salt damned.”
