The construction of the building of the Former School E. Maxia dates back to the period between 1937 and 1940, at the height of the fascist era and housed the elementary school no to 1975. The building is dedicated to Emilio Maxia, brother of Cav. Antonio Maxia, mayor of the village. During World War II, in 1944, the building, housed the medical department of Cagliari’s San Giovanni di Dio Civil Hospital, which was displaced to Villamassargia, so in that year the village children did not attend school. The building currently houses municipal offices and the Amelia Camboni Gallery artist from Villamassargia, born in 1913. Here she began to cultivate a passion for sculpture when she was still a young girl, as she recounts in her autobiography; she then spent time in Cagliari, where she learned the art from sculptor Francesco Ciusa and then continued her career in Rome.
