Ancient port of Turris Libisonis

In the area under the steps between the south pier and the Porto Torres maritime station, several Roman structures were discovered through investigations by the Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici in the early 2000s. These include port constructions, buildings with mosaic floors, canal systems, wells, and remnants of the road network that connected the port with the center and rural villas. An exhibition area was created to protect and display the artifacts to visitors. The enhancement project includes a pathway along a wooden walkway, showcases for artifacts found during the work, and spaces for larger artifacts. Other discoveries were made during the construction of new roads between the piers. The area has been used for exhibitions and events, such as Odo Tinteri’s exhibition on migration and sea travel.
