Archaeological area of Corona Maria

The Corona Maria area is a pre-protohistoric complex documenting occupation of the area from the Final Neolithic (4th millennium B.C.) to the Bronze Age (middle and final, 17th-10th centuries B.C.). The site includes several domus de janas; one of them, located in the pine forest, has a circular floor plan, equipped with two raised compartments and surrounded by a sacred area with cup marks. Another is incorporated within the basement of a modern home.

The area also includes evidence from the Nuragic age: a nuraghe, several circular huts pertaining to a village, and a giants’ tomb. The presence of Roman-era ceramic material documents occupation of the area in the Republican period as well.
