This is a residential structure that arose in the imperial age (2nd century AD) as a resting place for governors from the province of Sardinia and Corsica on their way to Forum Traiani (Fordongianus) and to distant colonies in northern Sardinia. The place name Muru de Is Bangius alludes to the presence of thermal ruins (bangius in fact derives from the Latin balneum meaning thermal building). These baths were equipped with dressing rooms (apodyterium), cool (frigidarium) and warm (calidarium) water pools, heated rooms (praefurnia) and rooms for oil anointings (destricarium). The structure had a spa facility decorated with mosaics and marble coverings, while the villa proper was decorated with plasters painted with various and colorful motifs of great beauty.
