Archaeological Museum

Architecturally, the building symbolizes a ship moored in the harbor, because of both the urban port context in which the work fits and the historical and cultural role of Olbia. The archaeological finds illustrate the entire history of the ancient city and the surrounding area, from prehistory to the 19th century, with special reference to the most historically and archaeologically richly documented phases: Phoenician, Greek, Punic, and Roman. An element of special interest is the display of three of 24 Roman and medieval shipwrecks found in the excavation of the tunnel under the waterfront. Roman-era ship rudders and masts, also visible in the wreck room, are the only ones in the world usable in a museum.
