Caposal XIV “Licata” Simbirizzi West

Sardinia’s anti-landing fortifications were built by the Royal Italian Army between 1942 and 1943 against a feared landing by Anglo-American forces. Hundreds of concrete defensive works were built, such as fixed cores on beaches and the containment arch. The 14th “Simbirizzi West” stronghold barred some of the tracks leading to Quartu or to the Sardinian Orientale. Equipped with automatic weapons and anti-tank guns, these monuments testify to the first phase of Italian anti-landing fortification, with more articulated installations than the “single-weapon” forts.
