The “Casa Ligas Uda” museum is a private ethnographic museum, which holds a collection of original traditional clothes representative of Settimo San Pietro, dating from the mid-1800s and early 1900s, and a collection of objects from the rural civilization of the Campidano region of Cagliari.
This is the only ethnographic museum in Sardinia that holds an exceptional collection consisting of all the original clothing known so far, from a single community, Settimo San Pietro, protected by the ABAP Superintendency of Cagliari.
The Ligas Museum offers visitors a journey back in time to late 19th-century Settimo through a display of clothing (gala, daily mourning, and work wear) and jewelry from the old Settimo tradition.
A realistic cross-section of daily life is housed in one of its five constituent exhibition halls, all in a modern setting but still sensitive to tradition.
The museum is a tribute to two young sweethearts, Domenico Ligas and Teresa Uda, who around 1958 decided to research the customs and traditions of Settimo San Pietro, interviewing people who still wore traditional dress on a daily basis.
The orally collected testimonies, accompanied by photos, postcards and journals, enabled the physical recovery of the original costumes, allowing the creation of the famous Ligas collection.
