The church is located in the main square of the town and dates from the 16th-17th centuries.
The parish church of Bonorva was rebuilt at the behest of the rector Jacopo Passamar, future bishop of Ampurias and later archbishop of Turret, over a period of almost thirty years beginning in 1582.
It presents a layout of Gothic-Catalan ancestry, with a single hall divided into five bays by transverse pointed arches on high pillars, covered by ribbed crosses with pendulous gems.
Of particular interest is the main portal formed in a round arch and surmounted by a classically inspired triangular tympanum.
Of extraordinary interest is the decoration of the vault of the second chapel on the left, whose decorative motifs have a strong symbolic meaning; these are stone ashlars carved with floral and geometric motifs, alluding to the starry sky and heaven.
A rich artistic heritage is kept in the church, including sculptures, vestments and sacred vessels.
Not to be missed is the grand painting of Our Lady of Pilar, crowned by angels and surrounded by numerous saints, which bears the signature of Baccio Gorino, a Florentine painter active in Sassarese in the early part of the 17th century.
