Church of Mercy

A short distance from the Church of St. Michael is the Church of the Pieta. The date of its construction is unknown but it is supposed to date from the 1600s-‘700s. The present altar was transported there from St. George’s Church in 1968 and had been part of the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary since 1913. The church was restored in 1968 with funds from the sale of some rooms owned by the Pieta Church, the neighboring houses were owned by it, and a community lunch was held there. Traditionally, the faithful gathered in this church for the funeral mass in suffrage of those killed (died in war, etc.) or those who died of misfortune, and for this reason no weddings were celebrated there.
