Church of Our Lady of Bonaria

The Church of Our Lady of Bonaria was built between 1927 and 1930, designed by Engineer Remigio Sequi and with the contribution of the entire population.

Since 1929, every year, it has been customary to celebrate the feast in honor of Our Lady of Bonaria, the patron saint of sailors. In the spring of that year, a group of people gathered at the home of fisherman Salvatore Serra to decide to organize a proper party for that same summer. After several meetings with parish priest Fr. Telesforo Onnis, Mr. Battista Muntoni offered to donate free of charge the land he owned in the Orri area for the construction of a church. In that same year, a statue of Our Lady made of papier-mâché was purchased, which is still kept in the small church by the sea. On August 10, 2023 on the occasion of the centennial celebration, the statue of the B. V. of Bonaria, which is kept in the parish church of St. Peter during the year, was solemnly crowned by Cardinal Arrigo Miglio as a sign of the affection and devotion of the entire community to the Maximum Patroness of Sardinia.
