Nestled on Mount Cucureddu, the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmine can be seen among the foliage of pines now a hundred years old, nestled in one of Villacidro’s most picturesque places. Its construction dates back to the 17th century, as recorded in a manuscript in the archives of St. Barbara Church. Although the original appearance has been altered, the structural simplicity is still legible in the single-nave floor plan and ribbed bell tower. A small, leaning body on the west side serves as the sacristy. The Church of Carmel, as it is commonly referred to, is enriched with greater charm in the summer, between July 16 and the last Sunday of the same month, when celebrations are held in honor of the Blessed Virgin of Mount Carmel, ending with the traditional torchlight procession at sunset. The church is about 400 meters from the town center and is easily reached by car by driving along Don Bosco Avenue, Castàngias Street and then Carmine Street.
