Church of Santa Maria dei Servi

The Church of Santa Maria dei Servi was built with the convent complex of the Servants of Mary, built in 1635, and gave its name to the street itself, which at the time was called “via dei Servi.” The religious building was designed by Luca Danesi and finished in 1668-69 with the collaboration of the Santini brothers. From 1800, following the Napoleonic suppression of most religious orders many of the convents in Ferrara were used as barracks, warehouses, workshops. The Convent of the Servants was allocated to the Sisters of St. Ursula, with the use of a school and women’s boarding house. The intended use was maintained until the 1990s. In the early 2000s, the nuns left the complex, which underwent a massive restoration and reuse for conversion into housing.

The church today houses the Ukrainian Greek Catholic denomination community.
