In the Sanluri countryside there are two churches dedicated to Saint Antiochus the Sulcitan martyr, and both have long been totally abandoned. In the locality of Funtana Noa, on the left side of the road to Lunamatrona, just 300 meters from the sports field, one can see what is known as Sant’Antiogu nou, a small church that was never completed. Sant’Antiogu becciu, on the other hand, is an ancient ruined place of worship, located 5 km from Sanluri, along the agrarian penetration road leading to Villanovaforru. After about 100 years of neglect, the latter was rescued from decay by a committee of volunteers from Sanluri and Villanovaforru and still retains the original terracotta pavement. It was reopened for worship on April 15, 2018 on the Feast of the Saint. Around the monument, schools are creating a park by planting the typical essences of the area, which fires for decades had destroyed. An epigraph in the Sardinian language welcomes those who pass by the little church: OMINI CHI PASSAS IN CUSTA BIA, FRIMADI’ UNU PAGU E ARREGORDADIA, CA CUSTA CRESIEDDA È TORRADA NOA PO BOLONTADI DE SEDDORI E BIDDANOA. SANT’ ANTIOGU DE SARDINIA PROTETORI DI DONIDI PASCI, SALUDI, TRIGU E AMORI.
