The Church of St. Anthony of Padua, included in the monumental complex of the Tonnara “Su Pranu,” is the first ecclesiastical building in the town of Portoscuso.
Built in honor of the patron saint of tuna fishermen inside the Tonnara, the Church of St. Anthony has a rectangular shape and a total area of 120 square meters.
The presbytery raised by 20 centimeters is separated from the area reserved for the faithful, while four large stone arches support the roof truss.
It lost its public function in 1655 when the new church dedicated by the tuna fishermen to Our Lady of Itria was built outside the building.
After years of neglect, the municipality included it in the restoration project of the Tonnara complex and it has been reopened for worship for several years.
