Church of St. Anthony of Salvennor

The records of Monsignor Alepus’s pastoral visit of 1553 state that the medieval church was the parish church of the village of Salvennor. Rebuilt presumably in the 13th century by the monks of Vallombrosa, who used the same workers as at St. Michael’s, it has a single apsidal nave with a wooden beam roof. It has a large sacristy and is flanked by the ruins of some dwellings that certainly in the Middle Ages must have been intended for pilgrims’ vigils. In 1858 it was noted that the church had a single altar with a wooden statue of the saint, carved and polychromed, representing an old man with a long white beard and brown convolvulus that inspired genuine veneration.
