St. Ignatius Parish, the first ever to be dedicated to the great saint from Laconi, was established in Serramanna in 1971. This naming was decided through popular consultation by the same future parishioners. Initially, services were held in a private facility that was repurposed for the purpose. During 1975, it was possible to provide the parish with its own structure, with the construction of a prefabricated shed. The new church was blessed on April 3, 1976 by Archbishop Giuseppe Bonfiglioli of Cagliari. Over the years, thanks in part to the generosity of the faithful, the structure was expanded. The last major intervention, dated 2007, involved the construction of an elegant portico placed to cover the side entrances to the Parish. The set of these works, designed and implemented by Serramannese architect Lucio Ortu, are part of a larger project useful for improving the functionality and architectural tenor of the building.
