Church of St. Lucifer

The church dedicated to St. Lucifer Bishop is the parish church of Vallermosa.
Built in the neoclassical style in the mid-17th century, it underwent further work between 1863 and 1955, which involved the chapels, bell tower, and polychrome marble high altar.

The vertical corner joints have stone decorations; to the right of the elevation, partly incorporated into the masonry, is the domed bell tower.
Inside, the hall is single-nave and barrel-vaulted with the presence of side chapels separated from the nave through openings with round arches.
The facade is simple, with a flat terminal surmounted by a cross, characterized by the presence of a rectangular portal surmounted by a lunette and an oculus with polychrome glass.

In addition to the sizable polychrome marble altar dated 1740, the church houses other valuable works inside, including a 1751 painting depicting the Virgin and Child Jesus and St. Cecilia turning their gaze toward St. Lucifer, by Cagliari painter Sebastiano Scaleta, and a wooden statue of St. Lucifer from the 17th century, kept inside a chapel located near the sacristy. St. Lucifer, archbishop of Cagliari, was a bitter enemy of Arianism, and an uncompromising defender of the Christian faith as expressed by the Council of Nicaea in 325. And his opposition to Arian ideas is well known, at the Council of Milan in 355, where, together with St. Eusebius of Vercelli, he strenuously defended the bishop of Alexandria Athanasius, who was condemned to exile by Emperor Constantius.
Every year on May 20, Vallermosa celebrates the Feast of St. Lucifer, organized by the Municipality and the St. Lucifer Committee.
The Feast lasts for several days, with processions, religious ceremonies and various civil events.
