The church of Santa Lucia overlooks the square of the same name and is attached to the cloistered Benedictine women’s monastery “Mater Unitatis.” Partly renovated and newly plastered, it features on the wall a large painting by Dorgali artist Pietro Mele depicting Sister Maria Gabriella Sagheddu, who was beatified in a solemn ceremony in Rome in 1983. The image shows the Blessed’s ascension to heaven and God the Good Shepherd with His own flock symbolizing Christian unity.
The presbytery houses the 18th-century statue of St. Lucy. The Benedictine monastery of St. Lucy’s Church still houses the 15th-century statues of St. Cecilia and St. Lambert of Liege.
The feast day of the saint is celebrated on December 13, a particularly heartfelt feast day is also Easter Tuesday.
