La Chiesa parrocchiale di S. Maria La Palma, da cui il nome dell’intera borgata, trae origine dal titolo mariano che si e voluto dare a tutti gli edifici di culto al centro degli agglomerati rurali sorti con la riforma agraria della Nurra intorno agli anni ’50. Inaugurata nel 1953, fu realizzata dall’ETFAS, Ente per la trasformazione fondiaria e agraria in Sardegna. La facciata della Chiesa e stata volutamente costruita in pietra, dando cosi seguito allo stile monumentale portato avanti dall’ETFAS. Il campanile e stato recentemente restaurato e dall’alto si puo godere di una visuale panoramica della Nurra. Intorno alla chiesa e all’immagine della Vergine attorniata da palme, piante molto diffuse nel territorio ma anche simbolo di vittoria e di oasi protettiva, sono sorti, come punto di riferimento per tutta la zona, realtà produttive e centri di commercializzazione, nonché i servizi necessari per i cittadini da quelli della sicurezza pubblica a quelli della sanità.
