It is located outside the town, in the Riu ‘e Corte valley. It is built of black and white limestone and volcanic stones, arranged in the shape of a Latin cross, has three apses and a sacristy. The altar is formed from a rachitic boulder from the quarries of Ploaghe. It had a bell tower, later collapsed, which had its base in the present sacristy. There was a Holy Door in the left side of the temple, which was opened every year for one month, for the feast of St. Michael the Archangel on September 29. There the maiorales from neighboring towns with their flags and a red and white cross on their chests convened for the purpose of profiting from indulgences. In 1856 John Spano described the statue of the saint: “he is dressed like the warriors of the Middle Ages, which for not having been restored has all the characters of the time. It is adorned with armor, shanks and bracelets. It is the only relic that has been preserved from antiquity.” Surrounding the church are the ruins of the monastery of the Vallombrosan order.
