The country church of St. Peter of Leni was rebuilt in the 1600s on the oldest site in Villacidrese habitation and worship history, dating back to the 3rd century. The small country church, dedicated to St. Peter the Fisherman, has remained over the centuries the only evidence of the ancient “Villa di Leni,” a small village that has now disappeared and stood along the banks of the stream of the same name.
Restored and restored to its original splendor in 2024, thanks to a grant from the Region of Sardinia, the church of St. Peter of Leni now features a new altar and ambo; the sacristy adjacent to the church has retained its original old flooring; and the 18th-century wooden crucifix that dominates the nave was purchased and specially restored after the church’s renovations. The liturgical feast dedicated to St. Peter falls on June 29, and in the Leni country church it is celebrated on the weekend closest to that date.
