The church, built on a presumed pre-existing Justinian, was built on a Greek-cross plan that existed in the pre-Judicial period. It was included in the list of churches dependent on the priory of San Saturno in the Giudicato of Cagliari, donated, in 1089, to the Order of the Victorines of Marseilles with donnicalie and domestie having for epicenter the village. It changed its name under the Catalans-Aragonese, who added the name of Montserrat, the mountain where the Benedictine monastery consecrated to the Black Madonna stands, from which the cult for Our Lady of Montserrat or St. Mary of Montserrat or Blessed Virgin Mary of Montserrat spread throughout the world.
The square has undergone a significant change in appearance as a result of paving and landscaping. At the back is visible the Angioy house, and to the left are glimpses of the balconies of the modern building that replaced the historic one.
