Court of Casa Diaz

The courtyard of Casa Diaz, in central Piazza Castello, is tangible evidence of the strong agricultural vocation of a small village in northern Sardinia at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The olive, artichoke and especially the grapevine were the real drivers of the economies of that time. The structure of the Corte, now owned by the municipality, was the heart of the Diaz Company, which for years provided employment for most of Usini’s inhabitants. In retracing the avenue of the Corte, it seems to relive those times when, all the machinery and equipment still present today, were in full operation. The main entrance on Piazza Castello consists of a high portal that opens to a courtyard: in addition to the threshing floor and stables, the workshop for mechanical equipment, the storage room for grains and the oil mill overlook it. Then the cellars and large wooden and concrete barrels, still intact, give a sense of the importance of this production.
