A short walk from the Church of Santa Lucia and the adjoining Benedictine monastery of cloistered nuns, in the charming and historic Gonare neighborhood, stands THE ANTICA FALEGNAMERIA DORGALESE founded in 1932 by the Arras family. Specializing in the handcrafted manufacture of wooden wagons, it was in business until the 1970s, when it was closed by the last exponent of this ancient tradition: Mr. Ciriaco Arras. Inside the carpentry shop, you can find tools from the peasant civilization and machinery from the dawn of industrial civilization still in working order. An authentic “labor museum” suspended between two epochs in which the ancient manual skills of the peasant civilization, the new modernity of the machine world and the mastery of the individual craftsman Ciriaco (Chiricu) are condensed.
