Crypt of the Church of St. Francis of the Capuchins

In the basement of the church of St. Francis, the original construction of which dates back to the 16th century, the remains of friars, members of the Gremio degli Ortolani and laymen who left sums of money as a legacy to the convent found their place. The spaces, consisting of several rooms, have undergone various refurbishments. A memory of this hypogeic structure perhaps remains of a possible entrance in the watercolor made in 1823 by Giuseppe Cominotti. The access was probably surmounted by a skull superimposed on two crossed tibiae.
