The Dessì-Lamarmora Technical Commercial Institute, at its historic site in Piazza Marconi, is one of the oldest technical institutes in Italy, representing an important part of Sassari’s history and was established by Royal Decree in 1871 by Victor Emmanuel II. Within the institute’s walls were trained the city’s best accountants and prominent figures in city life. Evidence of the past is represented by 400 instruments of physics, chemistry and surveying dating back to the 19th century, more than 3,000 vintage books, 32 volumes of Diderot’s Encyclopedy, maps hand-drawn by the school’s pupils more than 100 years ago, prints from the 1800s and furniture from the same period, stuffed animals and under formalin, and the mineral exhibit.
