Empire Theater Cinema today Alidos Central Theater

The Cinema Teatro Impero is the historic place where generations of Quartese have experienced the fascination of cinema by attending Italian comedies, westerns and colossals.
The building was constructed by Gioachino Campus between 1938 and 1941, according to the modern architectural dictates of the time, to set up what would later become one of the city’s most famous and active cine-theaters.
Prominent among its structural features are two large skylights in the attic, still visible and usable today, which were opened during screenings to achieve air exchange.
In 1973 the Cinema Teatro Impero was thoroughly modernized and its name changed to Cinema Centrale, which remained in operation until the 1990s.
Since 1995 the structure has been home to the Actores Alidos company, which, indulging its original vocation as a space for performing arts activities, transformed it into a theater with the new name of Teatro Centrale.
The building still preserves the original technical equipment and some of the furnishings of the former venue.
Today, it is the only evidence of the town’s glorious cinematographic past, when the people of Quarto used to go to su cinema ‘e Capra and su cinema ‘e Gioachino.
