Former Capuchin Convent

The Capuchin building would have been built on the ruins of a pre-existing monastery of Victorian origin. The Quartu Convent, built in the Capuchin architectural style, bears similarities to the order’s first two convents in Cagliari. Located near the Church of St. Agatha, it borders Matteotti Square, Brigata Sassari Street and Azuni Square. The building has undergone numerous renovations and transformations over time, but still retains many of its original features, including a four-portico cloister with a cistern in the center. The southern side of the cloister is adjacent to the church wall, and buttresses have been removed to create continuity. The portico is covered by round arches, except in the western arm where there is a lowered barrel vault. Surrounding the cloister are several barrel-vaulted rooms, and a long corridor, also barrel-vaulted, runs parallel to the northern side of the portico. The building has been completely renovated and part of it is used by municipal offices.
