Former School Building (1932)

The former school building in the rationalist style with classical inserts in the main facade was designed in 1932 by Eng. Severino Bellisai It was built during the 1930s and used until the 1970s as an elementary school. Following recent restoration work, it is currently being fitted out for a museum facility. The building has in the main elevation a forepart to which correspond two large rectangular classrooms per floor illuminated by large windows surrounded by plastic frames; the classrooms are accessible from the corridor, which includes services in the long side and two entrances in the short side on the ground floor.

For the occasion of open monuments, it will be possible to visit on the ground floor premises, an exhibition consisting of 20 illustrative panels on the archaeological, historical and art-historical heritage of Decimoputzu, starting from the Ancient Neolithic to the Modern Age. The exhibition was carried out as part of the University of the Territory – Decimoputzu Project, funded with a contribution from the Proloco Tourist Association and under the patronage of the municipal administration and Our Lady of Grace Parish. Project coordinator: Stefano Basciu.

In particular, it will be possible to admire the display of original clothes from the late 19th century from Decimoputzu and other clothes made from scratch by skilled tailoring hands following extensive historical research of Putzese clothing between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Women’s clothing, for the feast day, includes su muncadori (handkerchief) sciallu (shawl), camisa (shirt), cossu (bodice), unnedda (skirt) and divantali (apron). The exhibition is curated by Paola Schirru and Salvatore Mereu.
