The Fondazione di Sardegna’s registered office was built on the block on which the bastion of N.S. di Monserrato stood. The historical events of the palace are poorly documented, starting with the date of its construction, certainly after 1870, as deduced from a document compiled by Canon Spano, who in 1861 locates the National Guard building around that area. The entrance elevation of the Palace is on Turin Street, with the original eclectic-style facade remodeled over time. The side on San Salvatore da Horta Street dates back to the early 1950s. This was followed by the construction of the new facade in strict but rigorous rationalist style. In 2012, the building underwent a thorough restoration project. Inside are works from the contemporary art collection featuring major exponents of the Sardinian twentieth century. The Foundation is a private non-profit legal entity that pursues purposes of public interest and social benefit, promoting the socio-economic development of the island. Each year, the Foundation of Sardinia donates funds in philanthropic grants that always benefit entities pursuing nonprofit purposes in the public interest. The resources used for philanthropic disbursements are drawn from the profits generated by investments of its assets.
